Steve CS Chau
I have been discovered my interest in business subjects during I was studying in related business subjects of BAFS and Economics in the secondary school. I want to further my business studies in the university education.
The unfavorable results of DSE exam becomes a motivation for me to put more efforts on the associate degree. During the studies in Accountancy programme in the Community College of City University, I have worked hard on my academic performance. I really enjoy the processing of calculating accounting statements. When I succeed to balance the accounting statements, I have the sense of accomplishment. Therefore, I would like to become a professional accountant in the future career. I firmly believe that I will try my best to get higher achievements. I am strongly confident that I can keep my result up and strive to excellence if I enter your programme.
Apart from my academic performance, I have joined different extra-curricular activities. For example, I joined the “C.P.A. Initiative – P.A.S.S.” scheme which aims to help students to overcome their learning difficulties. I am responsible to provide ideas for juniors who are studying the financial accounting. Furthermore, I need to solve their problems which they are confused to and prepare materials for them to understand the concepts. This scheme are truly memorable experiences and enhance my communication skills. I not only need to have an intimate knowledge of this subject but also need to make concepts become easier for juniors to understand. This position better helps in both of my further studies and my future career.
I have also participated in the “Outward Bound Training Course” which was 5 days’ outdoor leadership training programme. During this activity, I was responsible for different positions like leading, time-keeping and etc. Once, we came to a fork in the road and we needed to decide whether to take the left fork or the right. We decided to choose the difficult one so as to challenge ourselves. During this challenge, I have learnt that nothing is impossible if I can insist it. No doubt that we had a wonderful and meaningful trip through this journey. Also, I built up a good relationship with every team member. I learned how to encourage people, stay positive no matter how tough the reality is and to be a good leader.
In addition to the extra-curricular activities, I sometimes watch news when I have time, especially business news. I always try to analyze the news and find out the causes and effects behind. I will try to apply the concepts where I learned from textbooks. I believe that it will be useful for my studies and future career. I found that the reality is not the same as saying on the textbook. For example, I learned that people would not accept a negative interest rate from the textbook, but ironically the Japan government sets a negative interest rate to encourage people to invest more.
Becoming an accountant is my dream. The first step is necessary to increase my knowledge through the university educations in order to understand the business environments and achieve my dream.
